It was quite an ending for John Duffy's first season as Germantown Academy's baseball coach.

The Patriots jumped out to leads of 5-1 and 8-2 and handled Malvern Prep, 9-3, to win the Pennsylvania Independent Schools title at Perkiomen School yesterday.

Colin Kish pitched the first five innings to earn the win, and Slater McCue finished up with two innings of relief.

Joe Conaway led the offense with three singles and four RBIs.

"It's a very nice feeling for the kids," Duffy said. "Any time you get to the final day of the season with a chance to win a championship, you're doing something right."

The Friars (40-3) won the Inter-Ac League title and were one of three teams from the league in the final four.

GA (27-5) reached the final by beating host Perkiomen School, 8-5.

Peter Rosa pitched the first five innings for the win while Matt Ricci and Timmy Vernon hit solo home runs.

Malvern reached the final with a 10-1 win over Chestnut Hill Academy.
