A closer look at the boys' first-team honorees

100 meters: Kevin Steinberg, Neshaminy, senior. Steinberg posted a fully automatic time of 10.58 seconds - the state's second-fastest time - while finishing second at the Class AAA state meet. The Connecticut signee also won the Suburban One League National and District 1 Class AAA meet titles.

200:

Kevin Steinberg, Neshaminy, senior.

Steinberg ran a 21.44 - the fastest time in the state - to finish first at the Class AAA state meet. He also swept the event at the Suburban One League National, Neshaminy Invitational, and Ken Montgomery Memorial meets.

400:

Khaliff Featherstone, Simon Gratz, senior.

Featherstone ran a state-best 47.92 to win the Class AAA state meet race. The Barton Community College signee also finished first in both the District 12 Class AAA and Public League Championships meets.

800:

Tom Mallon, Central Bucks South, sophomore.

Mallon posted the state's fastest time of 1 minute, 52.35 seconds to finish first at the Class AAA state meet. He is the Helman Invitational champion and District 1 Class AAA runner-up.

1,600:

Nick Crits, Wissahickon, senior.

Crits ran a state-best 4:11.69 to win the Class AAA state meet. The La Salle recruit also swept the District 1 Class AAA and Suburban One League American titles.

3,200:

Max Kaulbach, Germantown Friends, senior.

Kaulbach recorded an 8:58.69 - the fastest time in the state - to win the third annual Henderson Invitational. The Princeton recruit is regarded as one of the nation's premier distance runners.

110 hurdles:

Stu Fram, Council Rock North, junior.

Fram ran a 14.30, the state's third-fastest time, to finish second at the Class AAA state meet. He is also the District 1 Class AAA, Suburban One League Continental, Neshaminy Invitational, and Council Rock Kiwanis meets champion.

300 hurdles:

Frank Wainwright, Simon Gratz, senior.

Wainwright posted a 37.84, the state's second-fastest time, in the preliminaries of the Class AAA meet. He followed with 37.99 to finish second in the final. He won the District 12 Class AAA and Public League Championships titles.

400 hurdles:

Jermaine Lowery, Father Judge, senior.

Lowery ran the state's fastest time of 52.68 to finish second at the Penn Relays. It was also the nation's fourth-best time by a high school boy.

Shot put:

Wesley Lavong, Methacton, junior.

Lavong won the Bruce Dallas Invitational by producing an area-best 56-foot, 7-inch effort. It was also the fourth-best distance in the state. He is the Suburban One League American champion and District 1 Class AAA runner-up.

Discus:

Blake Davenport, Kennett, sophomore.

Davenport won the third annual Red & Black Invitational with an area-best toss of 162-0. He followed that up with first-place finishes at the Henderson Invitational and Ches-Mont Championships.

Javelin: Eric Brittingham, Methacton, senior.

Brittingham posted a 201-10 effort - the state's third-best distance - to win the Henderson Invitational. He also finished second at the Penn Relays with a 201-4. Brittingham also won the District 1 Class AAA and SOL American titles.

Pole vault:

Derek Hynes, Central Bucks South, senior.

Hynes cleared 15-6 - the state's fourth-best height - to win the SOL National title. He also finished third at the Penn Relays and second at the District 1 Class AAA meet.

High jump:

Raymond Quill, Pottstown, senior.

Quill cleared an area-best 6-8 to win the Pioneer Athletic Conference title. He later cleared that height to finish fifth at the Class AAA state meet. It was the fourth-best clearance height in the state.

Long jump:

Johnny Jenkins, Glen Mills, junior.

Jenkins won the Class AAA state-meet title with a state-tying best leap of 23-71/4. A week earlier, he went 23-61/4 to win the District 1 Class AAA crown. Jenkins also finished first at the Delco Championships and the Larry Simmons Invitational.

Triple jump:

Florian Ijelu, Wissahickon, senior.

Ijelu produced a state-best 48-61/2 effort to place first at the Class AAA state title. The Pittsburgh recruit also went 48-31/2 to win the 32d annual Trojan Track Classic.

4x100:

Norristown (Michael Pearson, Jarrett Boyd, Anthony Robey , Brandon Ellis).

The quartet ran the state's second-fastest time of 42.20 to finish second at the Class AAA state meet. The Eagles also finished first at the SOL Continental meet.

4x400:

North Penn (Alex Hill, Zack Montijo, Brad Rothenberger, Justin Bookheimer).

The foursome posted the state's top time of 3:15.54 to win the Class AAA state meet. The Knights also placed first at the District 1 Class AAA meet.

4x800:

North Penn (Brian Quintrell, Steve Franks, Bookheimer, Montijo).

The quartet ran a 7:38.79 to finish first at the Class AAA state meet for the second straight season. It was the nation's fastest time by a high school boys' relay. The foursome also finished second at the Penn Relays.
