Wait 'til next year

The Haddonfield boys won the Meet of Champions in 2001. The Bulldogs will take dead aim at the big team prize in 2009.

With all of their top runners returning, the Bulldogs should be in position to challenge for the team title. Top runners Jonathan "Boo" Vitez, Colin Baker, Ray Schlitt, Ben Potts, and David Twitchell will be seniors. Matt Nussbaum and Ethan Quanci will be juniors.

This past season, Vitez won the South Jersey Group 2 title and the state Group 2 title. Baker was second in South Jersey and third in the state meet.

The Bulldogs placed five guys in the top 17 and six in the top 25 at the Group 2 meet. If they can keep the pack together and experience some individual improvement, Haddonfield could challenge for the Meet of Champions title.

Defending champion West Windsor-Plainsboro North losses three of its top five. Second-place Don Bosco Prep loses two of its top five.

Haddonfield, which was fourth in this year's Meet of Champions, returns all five, and then some.

"They have a chance," Haddonfield coach Nick Baker said.
