Pa. Girls: Carroll tops Wood for Catholic League title

Perhaps its time to retire the Catholic League championship plaque for lacrosse to a trophy case in Radnor. Genni Hull scored four times and Hannah Schmidt added a hat trick to lead Archbishop Carroll past Archbishop Wood, 13-6, for its 10th-straight league title at Archbishop Prendergast on Monday.

Perhaps its time to retire the Catholic League championship plaque for lacrosse to a trophy case in Radnor.

Genni Hull scored four times and Hannah Schmidt added a hat trick to lead Archbishop Carroll past Archbishop Wood, 13-6, for its 10th-straight league title at Archbishop Prendergast on Monday.

It was also the sixth-consecutive time the Patriots beat the Vikings for the title.

Carroll broke a 2-2 tie late in the first half with five goals during a two-minute span. Katie Boyle and Nora McGeever split time in goal to share the win.

Tri-County. Morgan Klavon exploded for seven goals to lead Perkiomen School to a 17-8 win over visiting Barrack Hebrew in a playoff semifinal.

Soccer

Tali Fish scored the only goal Central would need, boosting the Lancers into the Public League championship with a 5-0 win over Masterman at Northeast's Charlie Martin Memorial Stadium.

Fish found the back of the net 10 minutes into the game off an assist from Casey Barrett. Nafessah Cannady scored twice; Barrett and Marielle Merlino both had a goal.

Samantha Cavalli faced just three shots while Central took 14 shots.

In the other semifinal at Northeast, Sarah Rodgers struck for six goals to lift Franklin Towne Charter to a 7-3 win over Girls High.

Megan McGuigan added six assists for the Coyotes, who got 11 saves from Jenna Edeline.

The Lancers will play Franklin Towne Charter for the league title Thursday at Northeast at 4 p.m.

Softball

Mary Cate Scott fired a two-hitter and lifted Lansdale Catholic past Conwell-Egan at Arcadia University, 4-1, and into its first Catholic League championship game.

Scott helped herself with a pair of singles and an RBI.

In the other semifinal, St. Hubert blitzed Archbishop Ryan with five runs in the top of the seventh inning and beat the Ragdolls, 5-1.

Jess Ibarra got the ball rolling when her squeeze bunt scored Michelle Raffle with the first run of the game. Brittany Meehan followed with a two-run single, providing the eventual winning run.

Melissa Robinson, who went the distance on the mound, held Ryan to four hits while striking out 12 and walking one.

The Crusaders will meet the Pandas for the league title Thursday at 4 p.m. at Arcadia. St. Hubert has won the last two league titles.

District 1 Class AAAA. Miranda Sergas contributed a triple, a homer, three singles, four RBIs, and two runs scored as No. 10 seed North Penn came from behind to beat visiting No. 23 seed Academy Park, 14-4.

Spring-Ford and Methacton split a pair of games during the regular season, but the 15th-seeded Rams won the rubber match against the visiting No. 18 seed Warriors, 5-1. Becca James went 2 for 4 with a double, scored a run and knocked in two for Spring-Ford.

Jen DiCandilo hit a two-run double down the left-field line in the first inning and boosted visiting No. 23 seed Conestoga to a 2-0 upset of No. 11 seed Upper Darby.

Catherine McGowan hit an RBI double in the seventh inning and helped visiting No. 21 seed Haverford High upset No. 12 seed Council Rock North, 5-2.

Blake Miller ripped a game-tying RBI single with two outs in the seventh inning and two more runs scored on an error to give visiting No. 19 seed Coatesville a 6-4 win over No. 14 seed Perkiomen Valley.

Inter-Ac. Michelle Cybularz pitched a complete-game three-hitter and hit a home run to lead Springside past host Germantown Academy, 7-3.

Penn-Jersey. Sarah Saltz belted a single, a double, a home run, and drove in six runs to lead Barrack Hebrew past visiting Renaissance Academy, 15-9, in a playoff semifinal.
