The combination of Sara McBride and Ali Karwoski has given Great Valley a pair of dramatic overtime victories in girls' lacrosse in a span of four days.

McBride scored her second goal of the game off an assist by Karwoski with 2 minutes, 1 second left in overtime as the Patriots edged Springfield (Delco), 11-10, in a PIAA state tournament quarterfinal game at Harriton on Saturday.

Springfield had beaten Great Valley by 15-9 in the District 1 third-place game on May 26, but the Patriots avenged that loss and advanced to the state semifinals against Downingtown East on Tuesday.

Alex Poplawski scored five goals and helped Springfield rally from a three-goal halftime deficit to force overtime.

Karwoski, who also assisted McBride on the winning goal in the Patriots' first-round overtime win over Manheim Township on Wednesday, tied the game at 10-10 with 3 minutes left in regulation on her fourth goal of the game.

In other quarterfinals, Downingtown East earned a semifinal berth against Great Valley by dominating Cocalico, 19-4, at Governor Mifflin.

Emily Solenberger provided five goals and two assists, Ashley Pioli scored goals and assisted on two, Linnea Faccenda scored four times, and Nicole Barretta added two goals and two assists for the District 1 champion Cougars.

Garnet Valley's balanced attack resulted in four goals apiece by Halley Barnes, Ally Heavens, and AnneLise Morello as the Rams eliminated District 12 champ Archbishop Carroll, 15-10, at Harriton.

Barnes and Morello also assisted on three goals each, and goalie Katie Stroup made 11 saves.

Carroll's Hannah Schmitt scored five goals and added two assists.
