Thurs. Pa. boys' and girls' roundup: Blocked punt leads to Southern victory

After Robinson blocked the punt in the fourth quarter of the Public League Class AAAA Silver contest, quarterback James Stokes hit Wayne Brunson with a lateral, and Brunson ran 20 yards to the end zone with just over seven minutes remaining.

The Southern (1-4 overall, 1-3 division) defense controlled Edison (0-4, 0-3), led by middle linebacker Saquan Ausborne, a 5-foot-10, 185-pound senior who had five tackles, including three for losses.

Sun Valley at Octorara - The Ches-Mont League game was postponed and rescheduled for 4 p.m. Saturday at Octorara.

Boys' Soccer

Braden Mouthaan scored off an assist by Robby Johnson in the 63d minute, and Christopher Dock goalie Zach Rice made three saves to beat host Delco Christian, 1-0, in the Bicentennial League.

Del-Val. Interboro rallied from a 2-0 halftime deficit and beat host Glen Mills, 3-2, with goals by Eric Goodwork, Fisher Sikorsky, and Tony Lucas.

Pioneer Athletic. In his second game back since suffering an ankle injury, Boyertown's Chad Craig piled up three goals and two assists en route to a 6-1 victory over visiting Upper Perkiomen. Craig has five goals in the two games since his return.

Tri-County. A. J. Bishop scored four goals, and Sam Mamlouk added a goal and four assists as Phelps rolled past visiting Kimberton Waldorf, 9-1.

Girls' Soccer

Archbishop Ryan claimed a 4-1 Catholic League victory at Cardinal O'Hara, powered by goals from Calin Blaney, Briana Egenlauf, Gina Luciano (two assists), and Kerry Retter, and two saves by goalie Jasmine Gonzalez.

Catholic Academies. Kayla Lewis and Caroline Lee scored goals eight minutes apart in the second half, pushing Villa Maria past host Nazareth Academy, 2-0.

Pioneer Athletic. Unbeaten Boyertown (9-0-1) turned goals by sophomore sisters Emily and Megan Diehl into a 2-0 win at Upper Perkiomen.

Field Hockey

Goals in the final 10 minutes of the second half by Nicol Natale and Maura Fortino helped Merion Mercy snap a 1-1 deadlock and beat visiting St. Basil, 3-1, in a Catholic Academies matchup.

Pioneer Athletic. Emily Rodenberger's two goals and one assist steered Upper Perkiomen past host Boyertown, 4-0.

Nonleague. Jen Webb's third goal of the game was scored in the fifth minute of overtime as Gwynedd-Mercy edged host Christopher Dock, 5-4.
