Pa. Girls: Cheltenham hands Northeast first loss of season, 49-26

The Panthers (5-0), ranked No. 9 in Southeastern Pennsylvania by The Inquirer, allowed just 10 first-half points against the Public League visitors. Northeast (6-1) got 12 points from Lauren Willis.

Ming Seawright gave Cheltenham nine points and 11 rebounds; Ciarra Clark had 17 points, 5 steals and 4 rebounds; and Christina Nalley came off the bench to get five more boards.

In other nonleague action, Abington Friends' eighth win was a 44-24 verdict over visiting Ben Franklin in which Bridget Warlea had eight points and 12 rebounds, and Bianca Adams posted 13 points and five assists.

Neumann-Goretti built a 30-14 lead after three quarters and held on for a 41-38 win at Notre Dame. Omawumi Rafiu had 15 points and 19 rebounds.

Aja Ellison had a big game for Shipley during a 56-36 triumph over visiting Springside by piling up 25 points and 17 rebounds. Jordyn Turner added four steals and three assists.

Nike Tournament of Champions. Archbishop Wood's Laura Trisch collected 10 points and seven boards, but the Vikings lost, 52-38, to Regis Jesuit (Col.) in the Phoenix event.

Beach Ball Classic. Archbishop Carroll's third win in four games at Myrtle Beach was a 58-45 triumph over Stephenson (Ga.). The Patriots got seven rebounds each from Sarah Curran (16 points), Rachel Pearson (15), and Meghan Creighton (14).

Suburban One. Alysha Lofton chalked up eight points and seven rebounds while Central Bucks South (5-1) rallied from a 28-16 halftime deficit to jolt host Abington, 46-41. The Ghosts (5-1), ranked No. 10, got 12 points from Aiyannah Peal but suffered their first loss.

Catholic Academies. Unbeaten Nazareth Academy (7-0) subdued visiting Villa Joseph Marie, 52-38, with Raya Stearn's 19 points and 13 rebounds.

Eighth-ranked Mount St. Joseph (7-0) kept pace with Nazareth by beating visiting St. Basil, 50-21, behind Cailin Schmeer's nine rebounds, and Bridget Higgins' seven rebounds and five steals.

Christina O'Shea's second straight double-double for Merion Mercy included 16 points and 13 rebounds as the Golden Bears beat visiting Gwynedd-Mercy, 43-37.

Central. Ridley's fifth win was a 48-45 thriller over Haverford High, capped by Shannon Clark's sixth three-pointer of the game. Clark had four three's in the final period, and Sam Foy went inside for 13 rebounds.

Tori Grossi sparked the Springfield (Delco) defense by grabbing 14 rebounds, blocking two shots and picking off two steals in the Cougars' 55-22 win over visiting Strath Haven.

Bicentennial. In her fourth career varsity start, Lower Moreland sophomore center Jessica Dranzik contributed 15 points and 17 rebounds to the Lions' 60-24 win over visiting MaST Charter.

Christopher Dock claimed a 41-33 win over visiting New Hope-Solebury as Laura Swintoski had 10 points and nine rebounds, and Olivia Bradford added 16 points.
