The battle for first place in Suburban One League Continental Conference softball, expected to be a pitching gem between Central Bucks South's Haileigh Stocks and Hatboro-Horsham's Maggie Shaffer, was decided instead by a big offensive inning Thursday.

Central Bucks South (9-1 overall, 6-0 division) snapped a 2-2 deadlock with a seven-run seventh, capped by Morgan Decker's three-run homer, and dealt the host Hatters their first loss, 9-2.

Lauren Klepchick's two-out, RBI single in the sixth inning allowed the Titans to tie the score, 2-2. In the seventh, Decker's homer followed Jae Epstein's two-run hit that provided a 4-2 lead over the Hatters (9-1, 5-1).

Stocks struck out eight, walked two, and gave up four hits to get the win.

Central. Three first-inning runs helped Ridley (6-5) hand host Springfield (Delco) its second loss, 4-2. Anna Poole lined a two-run double in the opening inning, and winning pitcher Courtney Eubanks scattered six Cougars (8-2) hits.

Six straight hits produced the first three runs of the game, and Upper Darby held on for a 7-2 win at Penncrest. Molly McDougall was 3 for 3, and Kate Robinson slapped a two-run single.

Catholic. Cardinal O'Hara (5-5) pulled off a 6-4 upset at Archbishop Carroll (7-2) as Molly Rafferty picked up the pitching win, Lauren DelRomano went 3 for 3 with two RBIs, and Grace Boston had two hits and scored twice. The Lions scored two decisive runs in the top of the seventh inning.

Home runs by Greta Sheridan, Lexi Mayo, and Bridey Harkins (3 for 4) powered Lansdale Catholic past host Hallahan, 7-4.

Conwell-Egan's 12-2 triumph at Archbishop Prendergast included Gina Massaro's 10-strikeout, two-hit pitching, and Shannon Stricker's three hits and four runs batted in.

Del-Val. Chichester's 10th win was a perfect five-inning game by Meghan Wimmer, who blanked visiting Academy Park, 12-0, with eight strikeouts.

Four hits each from Miranda Baylor (three RBIs) and Nicole Hallinan (two RBIs) fueled Interboro's 15-0 success at Penn Wood.

Inter-Ac. Centerfielder Kelsey Maguire went 4 for 4 with a double, two RBIs, and three runs scored, and Christen Boas Hayes tossed a two-hitter as Notre Dame handled visiting Baldwin, 12-2.

Catholic Academies. Nazareth Academy stayed atop the league standings with a 7-0 shutout of visiting St. Basil in which Emily Shellenberger pitched a two-hitter, Kait O'Sullivan hit a three-run homer, and Brittany Colombo went 3 for 3 with two RBIs and had seven assists from third base.

A three-run homer in the top of the ninth inning by sophomore Sarah Carey lifted Gwynedd-Mercy past host Villa Joseph Marie, 6-3. Carey's two-run single in the seventh had tied the game.

Villa Maria pitcher Mary Cate Butler outdueled Mount St. Joseph's Nicole Hawthorne for a 2-1 win.

Pioneer Athletic. Kristen Ziegler and Berlynn Hall had two hits each for Perkiomen Valley in a 4-1 win over visiting Pope John Paul II.

Public. Saul's Rebecca Whitehead drove in five runs and scored five times while going 3 for 3 in the Phoenix's 16-5 win at Esperanza.

Unbeaten Masterman (6-0) followed four RBIs by pitcher Tanya Brehouse (seven strikeouts) to a 14-1 win over visiting Lincoln.

Karim Karamoko scored on a fielder's choice in the bottom of the sixth to make University City a 6-5 winner over visiting West Philadelphia.


Brooke Kiley scored five goals, and Caroline Haynie added four goals and three assists in Germantown Academy's 21-14 nonleague win at Hill School.

St. Basil freshman Ashley Stefanowicz scored a season-high eight goals amid a 20-7 triumph at Abington Friends.

Stacey Cranlund got loose for nine goals, and Academy of the New Church goalie Brittany Watson stopped four Upper Moreland shots in the host Lions' 14-6 win.
