Jordan Wood was fed up with taking second place on the podium.
He had captured three straight titles in both the sectional and district tournaments, and two regional championships. But in the state finals at the Giant Center in Hershey, the top spot had eluded him two years in a row.
Headed into the season, Wood suffered a torn labrum in his shoulder and was unsure whether he would return. Wood returned in February and romped through the season, winning 20 matches without a loss, including 13 pins and two major decisions.
In his third trip to the state tournament, Wood coasted through his first two matches with pins. He squeezed out a 3-2 victory against Parkland's Omar Haddad in the semifinals.
Wood claimed his first state title in a 4-0 victory against South Western's Seth Janney.
Wood's regular season featured wins against Upper Darby's Joshua Yeboah-Gyasi (29-2) and Pennridge's Ezra Outlaw (44-11).
