Thurs. S.J. boys' roundup: Wash. Twp. trio combines on one-hitter

Three Washington Township pitchers came within two outs of combining on a perfect game Thursday, and instead settled for a one-hit shutout of visiting Triton, 7-0, in an Olympic Conference baseball game.

Winning pitcher Mark Scarpa was flawless through the first four innings, before handing the ball over to Tim Hildebrand - who continued the mastery of Mustangs with two spotless frames. Dylan Warburton came on to close out the perfecto, but surrendered Rob Hawn's single to right field with one out in the seventh.

The Minutemen, ranked No. 2 in South Jersey by The Inquirer, provided plenty of offensive support with five of their 10 hits going for extra bases.

Vinnie Nocella (2 for 4, 3 RBIs) hit a three-run home run, while Shaine Hughes (2 for 3, 2 RBIs) and Chris Hartz each added a solo blast.

Ned Kerr homered to lead off the first and second innings, putting host Paul VI on track for a 12-6 triumph over Seneca.

Cape-Atlantic. Buena senior shortstop Anthony Lopez picked up his 100th career hit on a third-inning single, and the fourth-ranked Chiefs celebrated the occasion with some clutch hitting and pitching to nip visiting Oakcrest, 3-1.

Robert Bunton's two-out, two-run single in the fourth inning increased Buena's lead to 3-0. Reliever Jared Corniell came on with the bases loaded in the seventh and walked in a run before striking out the last two batters of the game.

Egg Harbor Township's Troy Dixon raised his season batting average to .620 with a 2-for-3, two-RBI effort, and Austin Stauffenberg belted a three-run home run to allow the host Eagles to hold off Ocean City, 7-6. Beau Hall led the Red Raiders' rally from a 7-1 deficit with a pair of home runs.

Tri-County. Matt Miniconzi's single brought home a pair of runners in a four-run ninth inning, as Highland outlasted host Clearview, 5-1.

Two-run singles by Mike Pollastrelli and Anthony Racobaldo combined with four-hit pitching by Jon Carter carried host Williamstown past Deptford, 6-1.

Colonial. Haddon Township starter Kevin Griese held Gateway to one run on three hits, and Brendon Anderson drove in two runs with a pair of doubles as the host Hawks won, 5-1.

Burlington County. Chance Embler (3 for 3) got Moorestown going with a solo home run in the first inning, and Nick Savino followed with a two-run shot in the third to send the Quakers to an 8-3 victory at Northern Burlington.

Nonleague. The tandem of Drew Smick and Mark McGowan produced two runs, three hits and four RBIs in Woodstown's 9-4 home win over Woodrow Wilson.

Eric Park of Cherry Hill East took first with a 72 and his teammate, Vince Kwon, placed second at 75 in the Olympic Conference American Division championships at Ramblewood.

The Olympic National championship, also at Ramblewood, was won by Seneca's Rob Singer, who shot 75.

Colonial. West Deptford defeated Haddonfield for the first time in 10 seasons, 171-178, pulling the Eagles into a first-place tie with the Bulldogs.

Kevin Brockway of West Deptford carded a 4-over-par 40 at RiverWinds Golf Club.
