S. Jersey Girls: Thurs. S.J. girls: Smith's power propels Millville

Going yard once wasn't enough for Millville's Kaila Smith. The sophomore hit two home runs for the Thunderbolts in a 12-3 win Thursday over visiting Mainland in a Cape-Atlantic American softball game.

The sophomore hit two home runs for the Thunderbolts in a 12-3 win Thursday over visiting Mainland in a Cape-Atlantic American softball game.

Smith went 3 for 4 and drove in five runs. Lauren Tobolski added three hits and an RBI and scored three runs for Millville.

In the circle, Cassidy Gorgo worked a solid five innings, allowing four hits and three runs and striking out six, to earn the win.

Cape-Atlantic National. Buena's Lauren Dwyer and Sam Monfredo had a big game in the circle, as well as at the plate, as the Chiefs defeated Pleasantville at home, 34-0.

The duo threw a combined perfect game, pitching a total of four innings and striking out nine. Dwyer hit a grand slam to left-center field in the first inning. Monfredo followed Dwyer's hit with an inside-the-park home run, finishing 5 for 6 with four RBIs and three runs scored.

In another National game, Anna Gimeno smacked a triple for Middle Township in a 9-1 victory over visiting Cape May Tech. She finished the game 3 for 3 with a pair of RBIs and two runs scored.

Nonleague. Amanda Brooks pitched a one-hitter, striking out five, for Gloucester Catholic in a 12-0 win over visiting Highland. Allison McCarthy hit a three-run home run for the Rams. Megan Dyson and Christina Wilgus each went 2 for 2 with two RBIs and two runs.

Kaitlin Lupinacci went 3 for 4 with a triple and four RBIs to help lead Bordentown to an 11-4 home victory over Pennsauken. Carli Shaw scored three runs and stole a base for the Scotties. Pitcher Katie Schroeder went the distance, striking out 10 and walking none.

Emily MacNeil tripled for Egg Harbor Township in the team's 9-1 win over visiting Cherokee. Hunter Irvin went 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs for the Chiefs.

Lacrosse

Rancocas Valley's Peyton Sventy netted a milestone on her fifth goal of the game, scoring the 100th of her career. She finished with a team-high six goals as the Red Devils defeated visiting Delran, 17-7, in a Burlington County Liberty game.

MeKayla Montgomery finished with five goals, and Danielle Garfole and Mackenzie Montgomery each scored a pair for Rancocas Valley.

In another Liberty game, Alex Fitzpatrick put seven in the net for Northern Burlington during an 18-7 home victory over Pennsauken.

Joan Logan scored five goals and recorded three assists.

Nonleague. Maddie Bray and Caroline Farley each had a hat trick for Shawnee, as the Renegades defeated visiting Bishop Eustace, 15-8.

Farley had three assists. Goalie Lily Argyle recorded eight saves to earn the win.
