Sat. Pa. boys' and girls' roundup: Conestoga squeezes past La Salle

Frisina scored three times and Tyler Brooke added two assists for the Pioneers, who are ranked No. 1 in the PIAA by PhillyLacrosse.com's Media Poll. Frisina's third goal gave Conestoga a 4-3 lead in the fourth quarter.

Matt Rambo scored twice for La Salle and also recorded an assist. The Explorers are ranked No. 2 in the PIAA.

In other nonleague action, Drew Murray recorded two assists and three Penn Charter players scored twice apiece as the Quakers edged visiting Abington, 9-7. Nick Bambino, Tyler Earley and Kevin Murphy scored twice for Penn Charter. Ryan Ambler scored twice and added an assist for Abington.

Robert Raucci scored three times and Mitch Rose recorded six saves as visiting Garnet Valley topped Bishop Shanahan, 5-4. Joe McErlean had two goals for the Eagles and Anthony Wagner turned away 16 shots.

Kevin Benson recorded a hat trick and Tom McDermott turned away nine shots as Ridley turned away visiting Garnet Valley, 11-6.

Jim Gormley, Kelton Heverly and Brian Sinex scored twice each for the Green Raiders. Peter Hayes recorded 10 saves for Great Valley.

Inter-Ac. Henry Blynn and Zach Rego scored three goals each and Jake Landman turned away 12 shots as Haverford School downed visiting Malvern Prep, 13-7.

Blynn added three assists and Will Gural won 14 of his 24 face-offs. Malvern featured seven goal scorers and Matt Barrett notched 17 saves.

Baseball

Drew Hayes stroked a game-winning single in the bottom of the seventh to score Joe Poduslenko, and host Malvern Prep topped Radnor, 6-5, in a nonleague game.

Poduslenko reached on a walk and moved to second on a wild pitch. Matt Greskoff moved him over to third with a sacrifice bunt.

Gardner Nutter posted the win with seven strikeouts and two walks in seven innings. Nick Bateman went 1 for 1 with two RBIs, two steals and a run scored.

In other nonleague action, Chris Thompson went 2 for 2 and scored twice as Father Judge raced past visiting Bishop McDevitt, 12-0.

Thompson had a double, a triple and one RBI. The Crusaders scored nine runs in the third inning. Brad McDermott posted the win with a five-inning complete game and five strikeouts.

Bobby Roman went 2 for 3 with a run scored and two RBIs to lift Archbishop Ryan at Conwell-Egan, 11-6. Matt Graber added a triple and a pair of RBIs and Tom Derer went 3 for 4 with three RBIs. Gage Galeone struck out five in five innings for the win.

Senior first baseman Tucker Colton drove a two-run double in the first inning and Penn Charter eased to a 6-2 win over visiting Pottsgrove. Sophomore catcher Jordan DellaValle added three RBIs, all from sacrifice flies.

Jim Haley and Dan Furman each went 2 for 3 with a pair of RBIs as Monsignor Bonner picked up a 9-2 win at Archbishop Carroll.

Boys' Tennis

Holy Ghost's Connor Pietrak and Brennan Oakes teamed to win the Bicentennial League doubles tournament as they toppled top-seeded Davia Sklar and Robin Choi of Lower Moreland, 6-1, 6-1, in the final. The second-seeded Pietrak and Oakes downed third-seeded Lars Kristansen and Dylan Ryan, 6-0, 6-2, in the semis.

Softball

Conwell-Egan won two games before falling to Union Endicott (N.Y.), 5-0, in the final of the Williamsport (N.Y.) Tournament at Elm Park.

The Eagles dropped Montoursville, 6-3, as junior shortstop Shannon Stricker went 2 for 4 with three RBIs.

Conwell-Egan then knocked off host Williamsport, 1-0, behind the efforts of starting pitcher Gina Massaro. The senior righty struck out eight as she complied a complete-game win. She also drove in the game's lone run with a sacrifice fly in the first inning to score Stricker.

Pioneer. Demi Kanakis went 3 for 5 with five RBIs as Spring-Ford edged Pope John Paul II, 9-8. Kanakis hit a pair of doubles and a home run. Marisha Bates added two RBIs and three hits. Haleigh Williams posted the win with three strikeouts in eight innings.

Catholic Academies. Alex Capozzi and Brittany Magallanes recorded doubles as Villa Joseph Marie stormed out to a large lead before cruising at Villa Maria, 22-7. The Jems scored 11 times in the first inning. Righthander Julianna Abel posted the win.

Girls' Lacrosse

Annie Morrisey scored her 100th career goal and host Germantown Friends easily dropped Hill School, 21-11, in a nonleague game. The senior midfielder finished with four goals to bring her career mark to 102. She also added one assist.

Iris Williamson scored six times and set up two others. The Tigers ended the first half on a 9-0 run and improved their record to 15-0.

In other nonleague action, Ali Kawoski scored a game-high seven goals and added an assist as Great Valley downed visiting Conestoga, 14-7. Brooke Gamble, Kirsten Hale and Kim Hooven each scored twice for Great Valley.
