Former La Salle coach Gordon to become offensive coordinator at McDevitt

A month after stepping down as La Salle's head football coach, Drew Gordon has decided to return to the sideline.

Gordon has accepted the position of offensive coordinator at nearby Bishop McDevitt, where he was a standout quarterback in the late 1960s.

"It's something that I had a lot of interest in because it's close to home, I played there, I've known [head coach] Pat Manzi for a long time, and I'm friendly with [president] Steve Finley," he said. "I'm excited about the challenge."

In nine seasons at La Salle, Gordon, 64, compiled a 91-26 record and six Catholic League championships. He guided the Explorers to a 14-1 mark and the PIAA Class AAAA state title in 2009.

Manzi is expected to return as McDevitt's boss after taking the 2014 campaign off for health reasons. With Karl Stout as the interim coach last season, the Lancers went 3-7 overall and 0-4 in Catholic League Class AA.

"Because McDevitt is smaller than La Salle, it might give me the opportunity to do more individual teaching," Gordon said.
