Lehigh Valley IronPigs – Triple A
The IronPigs were blanked by the Pawtucket Red Sox, 8-0, in a rain-shortened game at Coca-Cola Park in Allentown, Pa.
The game was called after five innings.
Right-handed starter Barry Enright (0-2, 5.16 ERA) was torched for seven runs (two earned) on five hits and two walks in his two innings of work for the loss. He also allowed a home run, hit a batter and committed a throwing error.
The offense could only scrape together two hits in the loss. First baseman Jim Murphy (1-for-2) and second baseman Reid Brignac (1-for-1 with a walk) both singled.
The IronPigs remain tied for last place in the North division at 11-14. Lehigh Valley gets a day off on Wednesday.
Reading Fightin Phils – Double A
The Fightin Phils were routed by the Portland Sea Dogs, 10-2, at Hadlock Field in Portland, Maine. The loss extended a losing streak to five games.
Right-handed starter Mike Nesseth (0-1, 7.88 ERA) suffered the loss as he was rocked by the Sea Dogs. He allowed five runs on six hits, including a home run, in 3 1/3 innings.
Righty Ryan O'Sullivan relieved Nesseth, but didn't fare any better. He was charged with five runs (three earned) on four hits and a walk over 2 1/3 innings.
Trailing 10-0 in the seventh, the Fightin Phils scored twice to avoid a shutout. Third baseman Carlos Alonso and left fielder Cam Perkins reached on singles and scored on RBI singles by first baseman Brock Stassi and designated hitter Chris Serritella.
Reading only managed six base hits in the loss.
The Fightin Phils (11-11) now sit at .500 on the season. The series continues Wednesday as righty Severino Gonzalez (2-1, 4.28 ERA) is slated to start when Reading tries to snap the skid.
Clearwater Threshers – Class A-Advanced
The Threshers were embarrassed by the Brevard County Manatees, 20-0, at Bright House Field in Clearwater, Fla. to extend a losing streak to five games.
The pitching staff served up 22 hits, including four home runs, and 10 walks in the loss.
Left-handed starter Ethan Stewart (1-2, 3.18 ERA) allowed most of the damage and suffered the loss. He was tagged for three long balls, eight runs (seven earned), seven hits and three walks over 3 1/3 innings.
The offense mustered only five hits in the game. First baseman Harold Martinez accounted for two of them and the only extra-base hit, a double.
The Threshers sunk to a Florida State League-worst 5-20. The series concludes on Wednesday. Clearwater has not announced a starting pitcher yet.
Lakewood BlueClaws – Class A
The BlueClaws powered past the Lexington Legends, 9-4, as rain shortened the game after 6 1/2 innings at Whitaker Bank Ballpark in Lexington, Ky.
Five BlueClaws had multi-hit games in the win: right fielder Dylan Cozens (2-for-4 with two doubles, a run scored and an RBI), first baseman Willians Astudillo (2-for-4 with two doubles, two runs scored and an RBI), third baseman Mitch Walding (2-for-4 with a double, a run scored and two RBI), left fielder Samuel Hiciano (2-for-4 with a double, a run scored and an RBI) and designated hitter Jan Hernandez (2-for-3 with a double, a walk, a run scored and an RBI).
Right-handed starter Alejandro Arteaga (2-3, 7.54 ERA) took the win. He gave up four runs (two earned) on six hits and two walks while striking out four in a six-inning complete game. Arteaga allowed all his runs in the first inning, but was able to settle for Lakewood.
The win lifted the BlueClaws to 8-16 on the season. Lakewood hands the ball to righty Drew Anderson (0-1 7.20 ERA) when the series continues Wednesday.
