Minor Leagues | Costanzo's homer helps Reading earn victory

NORWICH, Conn. - Matt Padgett was 4 for 5 with a double and Mike Costanzo hit a two-run homer as the Reading Phillies easily beat the Connecticut defenders, 10-4, yesterday in the Eastern League.

Michael Garciaparra was 3 for 4 with a triple and two RBIs for the winners. Jason Hill had a pair of doubles and scored three runs.

Landon Jacobsen allowed eight hits and four runs in 52/3 innings to get the win.

TRENTON - Matt Carson's RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning gave the Thunder a win over the Rock Cats in a game that was suspended in the top of the inning Saturday night because of rain.

Carson went 4 for 4 with a homer in the regularly scheduled game to give Trenton the Eastern League sweep.

Indianapolis 5, Ottawa 3

INDIANAPOLIS - Brennan King's two-run homer was wasted as the Lynx fell to the Indians in the International League.

Luis Matos' RBI double snapped a 3-3 tie against the Phillies' triple-A affiliate in the fifth inning. The Indians shut down Ottawa the rest of the way.

Wilmington 5, Salem 1

SALEM, Va. - Kila Kaaihue's leadoff homer in the top of the fifth snapped a 1-1 tie for the Blue Rocks, who went on to beat the Avalanche in the Carolina League.

Wilmington's Rowdy Hardy scattered six hits over eight innings and gave up Salem's only run to improve to 3-0.

Lake County 6, Lakewood 2

EASTLAKE, Ohio - Roman Pena's three-run double in the bottom of the second lifted the Captains to a win over the BlueClaws in the South Atlantic League.

Road Warriors 9, Camden 4

CAMDEN - Ben Davis and Justin Singleton homered for the Riversharks in an Atlantic League loss to the Road Warriors.
