Negotiations continue for the Union to sell forward Carlos Ruiz as part of multiple moves the Major League Soccer team is about to make, a source familiar with the proceedings said Sunday.

Ruiz, who had team-high six goals in 14 games, was the second-highest-paid player on the team, with a guaranteed $306,670 salary, according to figures from the Major League Soccer Players Union.

The MLS summer transfer window ends Aug. 14.

Team manager Peter Nowak announced after Friday's 2-1 loss to the visiting Colorado Rapids that Ruiz would be leaving the club.

Ruiz, who signed with the Union on Feb. 22 on a free transfer from Greek SuperLiga club Aris FC, declined to meet with reporters after the game.

Host FC Dallas beat Chivas USA, 1-0, on the strength of a Marvin Chavez score in the 26th minute. Ruben Luna directed a pass to Chavez, who fired a shot from eight yards out that bounced off Chivas defender Heath Pearce's leg and into the center of the net.

After receiving a hero's welcome at Arsenal, Thierry Henry exposed his former team's defensive deficiencies in helping the New York Red Bulls win the Emirates Cup in London with a 1-1 draw.

The draw ensured that the Red Bulls, who have won just one of their last nine MLS matches, would capture the Emirates Cup. Hans Backe's side topped the four-team standings after beating Paris Saint-Germain, 1-0, on Saturday.

TENNIS: Serena Williams beat Marion Bartoli, 7-5, 6-1, in the Bank of the West Classic final in Stanford, Calif., for her first tournament title since returning from two foot operations and blood clots that threatened her career.

The victory was even sweeter because the ninth-ranked Bartoli beat Williams in straight sets in the fourth round at Wimbledon this year. The finals appearance was the first for the 13-time major champion since winning at the All England Club in 2010 and her best showing this year.

BASKETBALL: NBA officials and locked-out players are expected to resume labor talks Monday in New York for the first time since June 30.

Commissioner David Stern and National Basketball Players Association executive director Billy Hunter are expected to lead their respective sides.

The lockout began July 1, leaving rookies and free agents wondering about money and their futures. In 1998, a labor impasse reduced the season to 50 games.

Some of the issues this time are a firm salary cap, an increase in basketball-related revenue for the league, and a reduction in players' salaries.

Lindsay Whalen hit a fadeaway jumper from the right corner over Jayne Appel with 1.5 seconds left to give the visiting Minnesota Lynx a 70-69 victory over the San Antonio Silver Stars in a battle of the WNBA's best teams.

Jessica Davenport scored 16 points as the Indiana Fever reserves combined for a franchise-record 57 in a 98-63 victory over the visiting Los Angeles Sparks.

Renee Montgomery scored 19 points and Asjha Jones had 17, including eight in the final 3 minutes, 50 seconds, to lead the Connecticut Sun to a 99-92 win over the visiting Atlanta Dream. Danielle McCray scored 16 points to help the Sun (11-6) overcome a 10-point deficit in the second half.
