Ask Sir Charles

Bald is Beautiful, But What About Those Split Ends?

Q: Charles, I have a problem. Seems like my whole life, I've suffered from split ends. I've tried everything, but no matter what I do, I can't seem to make it any better. This is what it's come to: I'm asking you if you have any suggestions on how to deal with it.

- Splitting in Downingtown

A: First of all, I'm not sure what split ends are, but I'm assuming it's got something to do with hair. I know enough to know that I think split ends are a marketing ploy by the hair-products companies. Hair is just hair. Get a good haircut and you're good. I don't believe in split ends. You want your hair to be more fluffy - what do they call that, body? - just get a decent hair cut and you're good.

Q: I'm 46 years old, and I don't think I've ever felt worse about the state of our pro sports teams. The Phillies lose. The Eagles lose. The Sixers aren't even playing because of the NBA lockout. I'm not sure what to do with myself. The one bright spot seems to be the Flyers. Charles, how do you think they'll do this year?

- Depressed in Manayunk

A: You know what? I don't like it when people ask me about sports besides basketball. I don't want to be like these other idiots on television that act like they're experts on other sports when they're not. I don't know everything about b-ball, but I got a good chance of saying something intelligent. One thing I don't like about the media is these guys get on TV and act like they're experts on every sport. It drives me nuts. What does it matter what I think about the Phillies or the Flyers or the Eagles? I'm just a fan, man.
