Super Bowl 57 odds: Bet these Eagles vs. Chiefs player props now

If you expect Hurts, Mahomes to have big passing games, this is the time to place your bets

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts has thrown for just 229, 154 and 121 yards in three games since missing two contests with a shoulder injury. However, he’s currently projected to pass for more than 240 yards in Super Bowl 57 against the Kansas City Chiefs. (Photo by Mitchell Leff/Getty Images)

The last time the Philadelphia Eagles reached the Super Bowl, bettors had to wait until five days after NFL conference championship weekend to wager on Super Bowl props.

At the time, Nevada had a monopoly on the sports betting market, and its leading sportsbooks in Las Vegas took days to crunch all the numbers. So with few exceptions, the Super Bowl prop market didn’t open for business until Thursday night of the Super Bowl off week.

Now? More than half the states in the country have legalized sports betting. So the nation’s leading sportsbooks — understanding the axioms that time is money and the early bird gets the worm — wasted no time getting a jump on the Super Bowl 57 prop betting action.

Books such as BetMGM, FanDuel and Caesars Sportsbook began posting player- and game-specific prop numbers and odds as early as Monday morning.

So which bets should you consider locking in now, 11 days before the Eagles vs. Chiefs clash in Glendale, Arizona? Here are our top five early-action Super Bowl 57 player prop bet recommendations.

Odds updated as of 3:15 p.m. ET on Jan. 31.

Super Bowl 57 prop: Jalen Hurts and Patrick Mahomes total passing yards

  1. Bet it now if you like it: Hurts Over 241.5 yards; Mahomes Over 284.5 yards (at FanDuel)

Three stone-cold Super Bowl locks you can count on each year: The pregame shows will last longer than The Godfather trilogy; the commercials will disappoint; and bettors will hammer the Over on virtually every Super Bowl player and team prop.

The reason: The vast majority of Super Bowl wagers come from recreational bettors, and those bettors love to tie their wagering action to on-field action.

As such, the prop numbers currently posted at sportsbooks are almost certain to rise in the coming days. So if you like certain Overs, now is the time to bet them.

This is particularly true when it comes to the two quarterbacks and their passing yardage props.

Kansas City’s Patrick Mahomes and Philadelphia’s Jalen Hurts are likely to finish 1-2 when the NFL MVP balloting is revealed next week. But they also have something else in common: Hurts (shoulder) and Mahomes (ankle) are dealing with lingering injuries.

It was clear that neither was 100% Sunday. But with two full weeks to heal up, both are likely to be close to full strength on Super Bowl Sunday.

As positive health reports begin to trickle out, more and more bettors will gain confidence in Hurts and Mahomes — and they will fire wagers accordingly. And as those wagers accumulate, oddsmakers will boost each quarterback’s prop numbers.

So if you like Hurts and/or Mahomes to have big passing days, the current prices probably are as good as you’re going to get.

For now, FanDuel’s passing yardage totals on both Hurts (241.5) and Mahomes (284.5) are slightly better than what BetMGM (246.5 and 286.5) and Caesars (245.5 and 285.5) are offering.

What if you like either or both QBs to put up modest passing numbers in Super Bowl 57? The smart play is to hold off until game day, when Hurts’ total probably will be in the 250 range with Mahomes north of 290.

Super Bowl 57 prop: Jalen Hurts to score a touchdown (rushing or receiving)

  1. Bet it now if you like it: +115 (at Caesars Sportsbook)

Hurts scored a rushing touchdown in each of Philadelphia’s two postseason blowout wins over the New York Giants and San Francisco 49ers. And he did it while still recovering from his sprained throwing shoulder.

That gives the Eagles’ second-year starting quarterback 15 rushing touchdowns in 17 games this season — including at least one in five of his last six games and seven of his last nine contests.

With another two weeks to rest up, you know Hurts will have the reins loosened even more on Super Sunday and be ready and willing to take off — either on designed runs or improvisational scrambles.

Also a near-certainty: The odds on Hurts to score a touchdown at any point in Super Bowl 57 will keep dropping by the day. BetMGM is already down to -110 on this prop. So the plus-money prices currently offered at Caesars Sportsbook (+118) and FanDuel (+105) won’t last long.

Super Bowl 57 prop: Travis Kelce to win MVP

  1. Bet it now if you like it: +1300 (at FanDuel)

In case you didn’t know (and you do), the Chiefs’ Travis Kelce is the best tight end in football. And in case you didn’t hear (and you did), Travis Kelce’s brother is Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce.

The brother vs. brother storyline will be covered ad nauseam leading up to Super Bowl 57. And as the novice betting public learns more about the siblings from Ohio, they’re going to discover Travis Kelce’s mind-blowing stats.

Oddsmakers are aware of all this, of course, which is one reason why Kelce is the third choice — behind Hurts and Mahomes — to win Super Bowl MVP.

Hurts and Mahomes have near even-money odds to win the award at every sportsbook. Which makes sense, considering a quarterback has taken home the trophy in more than half of all Super Bowls (31 of 57).

Number of tight ends to win Super Bowl MVP? Zero.

In that sense, it’s difficult to suggest making this bet. Then again, Kelce is a tight end in name only — he’s really Mahomes’ primary receiver. In fact, in two playoff games this year, he’s responsible for 21 of Mahomes’ 51 completions, 176 of his 521 yards and three of his five TD passes.

In other words, if any tight end is going to break the Super Bowl MVP drought, it figures to be Kelce.

Once again, FanDuel currently is offering the best price on Kelce at +1300, with BetMGM at +1100 and Caesars Sportsbook at +1000.

Each book likely will have Kelce’s Super Bowl MVP odds down in the single digits by kickoff.

Super Bowl 57 prop: Kenneth Gainwell total rushing yards

  1. Bet it now if you like it: 11.5, Over -120 (at BetMGM)

Gainwell won’t dominate the Super Bowl 57 conversation at anywhere near the level of the Kelce brothers. But the Eagles’ third-string running back will get his fair share of publicity following his two postseason performances.

After carrying the ball just 53 times for 240 yards in 17 regular-season games, Gainwell totalled 160 yards on 26 carries against the Giants and 49ers.

The 2021 fifth-round draft pick saw an uptick in his usage because Philadelphia had huge leads in both games. But Gainwell was incredibly productive (6.2 yards per carry), so why wouldn’t he get a handful of carries against the Chiefs?

Unless the Eagles are in the midst of another blowout, Gainwell probably won’t see double-digit carries again. But in the seven regular-season games this season in which he’s had at least five carries, Gainwell has delivered 20, 19, 25, 22, 39, 17, 35 yards.

As his name continues to pick up steam in the betting market, Gainwell’s rushing yardage number is only going to increase.

Right now, BetMGM has by far the best price on this prop at 11.5 total rushing yards — Caesars Sportsbook (21.5) is nearly double that. If you’re as confident as we are that Gainwell will see some action on Super Sunday, this is probably the best value you’ll get.
