Cheltenham Township Police are asking for the public's help in identifying a hit-and-run driver who injured a pedestrian over the weekend.

At 8:38 p.m. Sunday, a caller to 911 reported that a woman was struck on the 8200 block of Ogontz Avenue, near a SEPTA bus loop, in the township's Wyncote section.

The 55-year-old victim, a Philadelphia resident, was crossing the street with her family when a car driving south struck her. She was taken to Abington Memorial Hospital, where she was in critical condition.

The car is described as a late model dark gray sedan, possibly a Nissan Altima or Maxima. It did not stop after hitting the victim and was seen driving west on Cheltenham Avenue.

"The vehicle should have front end damage as well as a missing passenger side mirror, which was damaged in the collision," police said.

Anyone with information on the driver can contact Officer Joseph Morrissey at 215-885-1600, extension 476 or call the Cheltenham Police anonymous tip line at 215-885-1600, extension 777.
