Only one person remains in the hospital after a massive pileup Friday morning injured 25 people and damaged dozens of cars on the Pennsylvania Turnpike, area hospitals said.

That person, at Abington Memorial Hospital, was in good condition Saturday afternoon, a spokeswoman said. Five of the patients sent there had trauma injuries.

At St. Mary Medical Center in Langhorne, all seven victims were treated and released, said Kathleen Smith, a spokeswoman. All three patients at Doylestown Hospital were treated for minor injuries and released, a spokesman said.

The injuries came after a pileup early Friday that left several tractor-trailers jacknifed across lanes and, by the time the road reopened in the afternoon, 55 cars towed from the scene. Two separate accidents in the eastbound lanes around 8:30 a.m. set off a chain reaction of collisions, as drivers stopped to avoid crashing, authorities said. State police said a complete investigation could take days.
