Sixers-Nets takeaways: Grimes a huge addition; Edwards steady in any role

by Keith Pompey

The 76ers are a bad team. But Quentin Grimes has been a huge addition, and Justin Edwards has been solid regardless of his role. Those three things stood out in the Sixers’ 100-96 loss to the Brooklyn Nets Wednesday night at the Barclays Center.

Struggling Sixers

Let’s face it: after losing to two of the league's worst teams on back-to-back nights, the Sixers are a bad team. Some will point out that Tyrese Maxey and Joel Embiid sat out Wednesday's game with injuries.

But that would not have mattered for a true contending playoff team. It would have found a way to pull out a victory. Instead, the Sixers (20-34) have lost five straight and seven of their last eight games.

Grimes finished with 30 points, nine rebounds, two steals, and one block against the Nets in what was his first start as a Sixer, and his fourth game overall with the team.

Grimes was acquired in a trade from the Dallas Mavericks that became official on Feb. 6. He’s averaging 16.7 points across his four games with the 76ers.

Edwards couldn’t care less about starting. The Sixers rookie is just happy to play, and he’s determined to make an impact whether he starts or comes off the bench. And that’s what happened Wednesday.

Edwards finished with 13 points on 6-for-13 shooting while playing 31 minutes, 6 seconds in a reserve role for the Sixers.
