Phillies LHP Cole Hamels (5-3, 2.89) vs. Nationals RHP Jason Bergmann (1-1, 7.45)

Phillies update: Hamels allowed just one run on five hits and pitched eight innings in his season debut against Washington, but took the loss in a 1-0 defeat in which the Phillies were one-hit ... Hamels is coming off the first shutout of his career. Entering last night's games, he ranked third in the National League with 65 1/3 innings pitched. He is also in the top 10 in ERA (10th) and strikeouts (sixth, 54) ... The top four hitters in the Phillies' order - SS Jimmy Rollins, OF Shane Victorino, 2B Chase Utley and 1B Ryan Howard - are a combined 12-for-64 (.188) in their careers off Jason Bergmann. Rollins and Howard have each homered once off him.

Nationals update: Bergmann started and got a no-decision in the Phillies' 8-7, 10-inning win on April 3. He allowed five runs on seven hits in 5 1/3 innings. C Chris Coste homered off Bergmann. OF Geoff Jankins went 3-for-5 in the game with an RBI ... In nine career games against the Phillies, Bergmann is 0-2 with a 4.54 ERA ... Washington is 8-11 in games started by opposing lefthanders this season ... After this three-game series, the Nationals will play 35 consecutive game against nondivision opponents.
