Marleau's milestone

Patrick Marleau of the San Jose Sharks scored his 300th and 301st career goals Saturday in a 5-2 victory over the Anaheim Ducks.

"Paddy was in the right spot at the right time," teammate Joe Thornton said. "He's playing great. Three hundred goals is quite an accomplish-

ment."

Marleau scored the milestone goal at 2 minutes, 15 seconds of the first period, taking a pass from Dany Heatley and drilling the puck past goalie Jean-Sebastien Giguere.

He added No. 301 on a power play with 4:41 left in the period when he controlled Heatley's rebound and beat Giguere. Marleau has scored four of his 25 goals this season against Anaheim.

Slapshots

The Dallas Stars can't seem to get a winning streak going. They've won consecutive games only twice in the season's first 38 games, and again Saturday followed a win with a loss, falling to the Colorado Avalanche, 4-1. . . . The Columbus Blue Jackets placed defenseman Marc Methot on the injured list with a shoulder injury and recalled forward Alexandre Picard from Syracuse of the AHL. Methot has a goal and three assists in 31 games. . . . The Phoenix Coyotes recalled forwards Kevin Porter and Jeff Hoggan from their AHL affiliate in San Antonio and put forward Daniel Winnik on the injured list. Winnik was hurt in Saturday's 3-2 win over Los Angeles.
