The sixth-seeded Colonials (21-11) advanced to the quarterfinals to face No. 3 Rhode Island on Friday at the Barclays Center.
George Washington shot 55 percent in the first half and jumped out to a 13-point lead. Kevin Larsen had 10 points and 15 rebounds.
The 11th-seeded Dukes (12-19) drew within 50-46 on Micah Mason's three-pointer about halfway through the second half. Mason had 17 of his 22 points in the second half.
VCU 63, Fordham 57 - Treveon Graham scored 22 points and Melvin Johnson added 16 as VCU prevailed in the second round of the Atlantic Ten tournament.
The fifth-seeded Rams (23-9) advanced to the quarterfinals to play Richmond on Friday.
