Track and field: Men's discus qualifying

Penn alum Sam Mattis will compete in discus qualifying at 4:10 a.m. Mattis finished second at the Olympic trials in June to make his second Olympic Games after also competing in Tokyo in 2021.

Track and field: Women's 400-meter qualifying

Former Penn State runner Alexis Holmes will compete in the women’s 400-meter qualifying heats on Monday at 6:35 a.m. If she advances, she’ll compete in the semifinal on Aug. 7 and then potentially again in the final on Aug. 9.

Women's gymnastics: Simone Biles

In what is likely her final Olympics, Simone Biles will compete in the floor exercise event final, where she won gold in Rio 2016, at 8:23 a.m. She will also compete in the beam final at 6:38 a.m. She won bronze on beam in 2016 and 2021.

Artistic swimming

Wilmington native Megumi Field and Team USA qualified in artistic swimming for the first time since 2008. The first event of the Games, the technical team event, starts at 1:15 p.m.

Men's volleyball quarterfinals: USA vs. Brazil

Penn State’s Aaron Russell (pictured), Max Holt, and Matt Anderson helped Team USA advance out of the group stage. They'll face Brazil in the quarterfinals on Monday at 3 p.m. after failing to medal in 2021. They won bronze in Rio in 2016.
