The 141-pound Carroll will fight Chris Pearson of Cincinnati tonight in the quarterfinals.
Super heavyweight Pedro Martinez of Philadelphia lost a decision to Anthony Webster of Selma, Ala., in the final bout of the evening.
Anthony Tettis (201) of Ridgway, Pa., stopped Randy Johnson of Little Rock three seconds into the second round. He will fight Danny Calhoun of Cincinnati next.
Golden Gloves champions earn an automatic berth in the U.S. Olympic trials.
One Lubash brother advanced last night, but the other became a spectator.
Jesse Lubash (152), a Pennsylvania state champion like his brother, defeated Richard Williams of Washington by unanimous decision.
James Lubash (178) fell in a unanimous decision to top-ranked De'Rae Crane of Northern Michigan University, an elite boxing school.
The Lubash brothers are from Munhall, Allegheny County.
Things will not get any easier for Jesse Lubash. He will fight 2006 Golden Gloves champion Demetrius Andrade of Providence, R.I., in the quarterfinals tonight.
