Merion team captures Phila. Cup

Nancy Porter and Loraine Jones each prevailed in 1-up matches and helped Merion Golf Club defeat Huntingdon Valley, 5-0, yesterday at Aronimink to win the Women's Golf Association of Philadelphia's Philadelphia Cup.

The Philadelphia Cup is presented to the winning team in the championship bracket of the Women's Inter-Club Team Matches. Merion and Huntingdon Valley each finished the regular season with a 4-0 record, forcing the playoff.

Kim Simmons, Vinny West and Lindsay Forgash also posted victories for Merion, and Liz Haines and Tinker Sanger halved their matches since sudden death was not needed to determine the Cup winner.

17th Cup 5th place: Torresdale-Frankford def. Wilmington 4, 5-2, at Waynesborough.

25th Cup winner: Blue Bell def. Kennett Square 3, 5-2, at Whitford.
