The Phantoms did something last night they'd never done in franchise history:
They went the entire first period without taking a shot, in their 4-2 loss to the host Toronto Marlies in an AHL game.
The Marlies held a 3-0 lead until Boyd Kane's deflection with 6 minutes, 32 seconds left in the third period. They cut the lead to 3-2 with 3:36 left on a penalty shot by Jared Ross, awarded when a Marlies player was ruled to have gloved the puck in the crease. A Marlies empty-netter with 45 seconds left ended the comeback.
The Phantoms next face Norfolk at 7:05 p.m. Friday at the Wachovia Spectrum. *
