Eagles’ Sampy has surgery

Eagles wide receiver Bill Sampy had surgery to repair his fractured and dislocated left ankle today.

Eagles wide receiver Bill Sampy had surgery to repair his fractured and dislocated left ankle today.

Sampy was injured during Tuesday's session for rookies and selected veterans. Sampy turned back for an underthrown pass and collided with rookie safety Therrien Fontenot, who also was tracking the ball.

Sampy was down on the field, surrounded by medical staff, for quite a while, before he rode off to the locker room in a cart.

The surgery was performed by Dr. Steve Raikin, a foot and ankle specialist from the Rothman Institute at Jefferson Hospital.

Sampy spent last season on the practice squad for the second consecutive year. He suffered a quad injury last July at training camp that dogged him through the preseason.
