College Basketball: Rutgers women get a scare

Epiphanny Prince scored 13 points, including the go-ahead basket with 35 seconds to play, as No. 14 Rutgers avoided an upset with a 58-56 victory over Prairie View A&M last night in Piscataway, N.J.

Held in check by the Panthers (2-7) for most of the game, Prince scored Rutgers' final five points.

Heather Zurich and Brittany Ray also had 13 points each as Rutgers (5-2) won its 18th straight at the Louis Brown Athletic Center.

Tennessee 81, Middle Tennessee 52 -

Shekinna Stricklen scored a career-high 20 points as the seventh-ranked Vols (7-1) easily handled the Blue Raiders (5-4) in Knoxville, Tenn.

The young Vols, who have struggled with their shooting this season, made a season-best 50.8 percent against the Blue Raiders.

Fairfield 69, Fordham 66 -

Lyndon Jordan hit a three-pointer with two seconds remaining to lift the Stags (7-3) over the Rams (1-7) in New York.

Luke Devine's basket with 20 seconds to go had tied the score for Fordham.

Jordan then hit his winning shot to lift Fairfield to its sixth straight win.
