James van Riemsdyk, the No. 2 overall selection of the Flyers in last year's NHL draft, scored twice for the United States, which opened the world junior hockey championship yesterday with an 8-2 rout of Germany in Ottawa.

Riemsdyk is a sophomore at the University of New Hampshire.

Drayson Bowman also scored a pair of goals for the Americans, who will take on the Czech Republic tomorrow.
