Unforgettable perspective on walk, slam
Phillies broadcaster Tom McCarthy did pregame and postgame work in the playoffs and World Series. During the games, he was able to roam the ballpark. His favorite memory from the 2008 World Series championship season came as he watched the second inning of Game 2 of the National League division series from a suite down the left-field line at Citizens Bank Park.
That was the inning when Brett Myers drew a wild, nine-pitch walk against CC Sabathia, and Shane Victorino belted a grand slam.
"Being down the left-field line gave me a different look at the ballpark," McCarthy said. "I got to see how energized it was. No other ballpark in the league could have matched it.
"The Myers at-bat was incredible, then two batters later Victorino hit the grand slam to left. Watching the ball go past my eye-shot and seeing the crowd erupt was unbelievable. It was almost like the wave, fans just kept rising. The energy in the ballpark for those two moments was overwhelming."
