Sources: Basketball transfers interested in Temple

Sources have confirmed a report on OwlScoop.com that Temple's basketball program received an official visit from Ron Anderson, a 6-8 forward who is transferring from Kansas State. His father, Ron Sr., was a 76er for five seasons during a decadelong NBA career.

Anderson averaged 4.4 points and 4.7 rebounds in 18 minutes a game last season as a sophomore. After sitting out next season, he would have 2 years of eligibility remaining. Virginia Commonwealth is also in the mix.

Coach Fran Dunphy, who has two scholarships available, also is interested in Allan Chaney, another 6-8 forward who is leaving Florida after averaging three points and 2.1 boards as a freshman. Providence and Virginia Tech are involved as well.

Looking to 2010, Bartram High's Tyrone Garland, a 6-1 point guard, has made an unofficial visit to North Broad Street.

Football tickets on sale

Individual tickets for Temple's six home football games will go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday. They will be available at the Lincoln Financial Field box office and Ticketmaster at 215-336-2000. Additional information can be found online at www.OwlsTix.com. Group discounts are available by calling 215-204-6710. Prices range from $15 (end zone) to $25 (sideline) to $45 (club level).

The Owls will host Villanova (Sept. 3), Buffalo (Sept. 26), Ball State (Oct. 10), Army (Oct. 17), Miami of Ohio (Nov. 5) and Kent State (Nov. 21).

In other Temple football news, two former players have signed NFL rookie free-agent contracts.

Offensive tackle Andre Douglas signed with Tampa Bay and wide receiver and kickoff returner Travis Shelton signed with Denver. Center Alex Derenthal has been invited to work out for Miami.

Defensive tackle Terrance Knighton was drafted by the Jaguars with the eighth pick of the third round (72nd pick overall) on Sunday. *
