High Schools - Another familiar face on Bonner bench
And the chain remains unbroken . . . Monsignor Bonner High has a new basketball coach and, like the four guys who preceeded him, he's an alumnus. Tom Meakim, a veteran assistant (class of 1973), was named to replace Brian Daly, who resigned after going 59-43 in four seasons.

Monsignor Bonner High has a new basketball coach and, like the four guys who preceeded him, he's an alumnus. Tom Meakim, a veteran assistant (class of 1973), was named to replace Brian Daly, who resigned after going 59-43 in four seasons.
Beginning with the 1989-90 season, the Friars have been coached exclusively by grads (Kevin McCormick, Jack Concannon and Jim "Goose" Welde prior to Daly). Through that period, only one other city-league school (Central, under Frank Greco, then Haviland Harper) can make that claim.
"I have a lot of pride in my school and the Catholic League. This is very humbling to me," Meakim said. "I'm eternally grateful to Brian and Jimmy Welde, who first hired me. I just want to keep the program going forward."
Meakim was Welde's grade-school coach at Annunciation, in Havertown. *
