Eagles Notes: Brown practices despite hamstring injury

The biggest surprise on the practice field yesterday at the NovaCare Complex was the presence of Sheldon Brown. The biggest surprise on the practice field yesterday at the NovaCare Complex was the presence of Sheldon Brown.

Three days after suffering a strained hamstring during the Eagles' loss at San Diego, the veteran cornerback participated in individual drills and said afterward that there was "a good chance" he'd be able to play Sunday at Chicago.

Perhaps that should be no surprise given Brown's history.

He has never missed a game in his eight-year NFL career, a streak that has stretched to 133 games counting the postseason.

"I think we have a great training staff, and they got on it right away," Brown said. "That was the whole idea of getting me out of the game when they got me out, so I think there is a good chance."

Brown suffered the hamstring injury in the second quarter and tried to play one defensive series in the third quarter before coming out of the game.

"I feel a lot better," he said.

If Brown is unable to go, the Eagles would have to start Dimitri Patterson at cornerback and make Ramzee Robinson the nickel cornerback. Patterson has played in 27 career games, mostly on special teams, and has never started.

"We have faith in the guys that have to go in to play if I don't play," Brown said.

Patterson said he would be confident if he had to start and would look forward to it.

Extra points. Safety Quintin Demps (high ankle sprain), safety Macho Harris (eye infection), and linebacker Akeem Jordan (hyperextended knee) sat out practice yesterday. Demps and Jordan will likely not play against the Bears. Harris, sporting a pair of funky glasses, said that the eye infection was caused by his contact lenses and that he expected to return to the practice field today. . . . Tackle Jason Peters was a full participant in practice after missing Sunday's game with a sprained ankle. "Is he 100 percent right now? No," coach Andy Reid said. "But he's going to go out and practice and try to do some things." What he did isn't known because practice was closed to reporters. . . . Wide receiver Kevin Curtis remains at least a few weeks from returning to the playing field after undergoing knee surgery last month in Utah. Curtis said he still has stitches that must be removed before he can start football activities. . . . The Bears are 0-3 in night games this season, and the Eagles are 0-7 on Sunday nights since NBC took over those telecasts from ESPN in 2007.
