Detroit center Henrik Zetterberg left the Red Wings' game last night against Tampa Bay late in the first period because of an upper-body injury.
Zetterberg was helped off after taking a check from Mattias Ohlund. Zetterberg was on the ice on his hands and knees before being helped off.
Detroit is already without Johan Franzen, Valtteri Filppula, Jason Williams, Niklas Kronwall, Dan Cleary, Darren Helm and Jonathan Ericsson because of injuries.
Coach rips Rangers
New York Rangers coach John Tortorella benched defenseman Wade Redden and forward Ales Kotalik against the New York Islanders last night after his club dropped its fifth straight a night earlier.
"The guys that are out has to do with their play," Tortorella said. "It's never over one game, but it has to do with their play."
New York was held to two goals or fewer Wednesday for the seventh straight game and for the 17th time in 21 contests.
"There has to be something done," Tortorella said Wednesday during expletive-laced postgame comments.
Surgery for Lupul
Anaheim rightwinger Joffrey Lupul, who has 10 goals in 23 games, was scheduled to undergo surgery yesterday to repair a herniated disk in his back. The former Flyer is expected to miss six to eight weeks.
