The Flyers announced today that they have signed goaltender Johan Backlund to a multi-year contract extension, according to club general manager Paul Holmgren. Per club policy, financial terms were not disclosed.

Backlund, 28, appeared in just one regular season game with the Flyers last season, going 0-1-0 with a 3.00 goals-against average. He missed the final seven regular season games with a lower body injury. During the Stanley Cup Playoffs, Backlund served as backup in 15 of the Flyers' 23 games and briefly saw action, appearing in 1:24 of Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals vs. Boston. He also dressed, but did not play in eight games for the Flyers during the regular season.
