By Mel Greenberg NEW YORK - The University of Connecticut women's basketball team matched the Division I collegiate basketball record of 88 straight wins, rolling to a 79-50 triumph over Ohio State at Madison Square Garden Sunday.

Since the run began at the start of the 2008-09 season, only Stanford in last April's NCAA title game and No. 2 Baylor last month have been able to come within single digits of stopping UConn (10-0).

Tiffany Hayes led the Huskies with 26 points while senior Maya Moore scored 22 and freshman Bria Hartley scored 13 points. Stefanie Dolson, a 6-foot-5 freshman from Port Jervis, N.Y. grabbed 15 rebounds going against all-American Jantel Lavender of the Buckeyes (8-2).

Lavender and Tayler Hill each scored 14 points for Ohio State in front of a crowd of 15,232, the second largest to watch a women's collegiate game at the Garden.

Tuesday night, UConn can break the record also held by the UCLA men's team from 1971-74 when they host No. 15 Florida State at the XL Center in Hartford. The game at 7 p.m. will be televised on ESPN2.
