Temple junior linebacker Tyler Matakevich was named to the American Athletic Conference first team Wednesday.

Four other Temple juniors - center Kyle Friend, defensive tackle Matt Ioannidis, and defensive end Praise Martin-Oguike - were selected to the second team. Junior cornerback Tavon Young was named honorable mention.

Matakevich led the conference with 88 solo tackles.

Andersen bolts Badgers

Wisconsin coach Gary Andersen stepped down to become head coach at Oregon State.

Andersen informed the team of his decision Wednesday, the school said. Wisconsin finished 10-3 this season under Andersen and will play in the Outback Bowl against Auburn on Jan. 1. Wisconsin athletic director Barry Alvarez said he would consider coaching the team in the bowl.

Barrett attack alleged

Injured Ohio State quarterback J.T. Barrett and his ex-girlfriend made 911 calls on Tuesday morning alleging each attacked the other.

A police report said Barrett and Alexandria Barrett-Clark were referred to prosecutors. Police say there were no obvious signs of injury and both declined to file charges.

The report quotes Barrett saying Barrett-Clark refused to leave his off-campus apartment in Columbus, Ohio, and struck him. It quotes Barrett-Clark saying he choked her and threw her across the room.
