Man charged with fatally stabbing woman in Mount Holly

A man has been apprehended in the Mount Holly stabbing death of a woman with whom he had a young child.

The Burlington County Prosecutor's Office said Thursday that 38-year-old Rashon Causey had been arrested in the Monday night stabbing of Shanai Marshall.

The Burlington City resident is charged with first-degree murder, aggravated assault, burglary and weapons offenses.

He forced his way into Marshall's home on Monroe Street late Monday and attacked the woman, prosecutors said. Authorities have said the two had a young child together but didn't provide further details about their relationship.

Marshall, 37, was flown to Capital Health Regional Medical Center in Trenton, where she later died.

An autopsy concluded that she died from a stab wound to her head; the death was ruled a homicide.

Authorities publicly identified Causey as a suspect on Wednesday afternoon and found him that evening. He was taken into custody about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at a home on Elm Avenue in Burlington city, prosecutors said.
