Man bites officers in Harrowgate struggle
Police say a man bit two officers as they tried to apprehend him overnight in Philadelphia's Harrowgate section.
Authorities said a male and a female officer approached the 32-year-old man, who appeared to be trying to break into a car, about 1:30 a.m. on the 1200 block of Atlantic Street.
A struggle ensued and the man bit both officers in their arms and hands, drawing blood, Chief Inspector Scott Small told reporters.
The officers were taken to Aria Health-Frankford Campus in stable condition.
Any time someone suffers a human bite, Small said, "it is really potentially very dangerous" and the wound needs to be thoroughly cleaned.
The man, whose name was not released, was taken into custody. Small told reporters that the suspect had been known to use and sell drugs in the area.
