Commonwealth National wins GAP matches

James Ferrero and Craig Burton each contributed 101/2 points while leading Commonwealth National to its first championship in the Golf Association of Philadelphia's 107th annual Team Matches yesterday.

Commonwealth, which has been in the four-team final three straight years, finished with 851/2 points, followed closely by Philadelphia Cricket (761/4) and Huntingdon Valley (75), with Llanerch (45), in its first final since 2003, placing fourth.

Each club fields a 12-man team with three players competing in singles matches at each of the four clubs involved.

Commonwealth, which posted the high point total at three of the four sites, also got significant points from John Robinson (101/4), Ryan Gelrod (9), Kenneth Matt (8) and Brett Diakon (8). Mike Anderson flew in from London on Friday to participate.
