The Flyers today called up right wing Steve Downie from the Phantoms of the AHL to replace left wing Riley Cote.

Cote was suspended for three games yesterday for landing a check to the head of Matt Niskanen of the Dallas Stars on Saturday.

Downie, the Flyers' first-round draft pick and the 29th overall in the 2005 draft, was himself suspended on Sept. 25 for 20 games for a leaping shoulder hit to the head of Ottawa's Dean McAmmond in the preseason.

Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren said that Downie was promoted because, "He's been playing very well [with the Phantoms] and we need an extra body."

Downie has one goal and 11 assists and a team-high 63 penalty minutes in 13 games for the Phantoms.
