NEW YORK - Matt Cullen had two assists in his return to Madison Square Garden and Cam Ward recorded his second shutout of the season, helping the Carolina Hurricanes rout the New York Rangers last night, 4-0.
Cullen was traded back to the Hurricanes this summer after a season with the Rangers.
He had the primary assist on Scott Walker's goal and then helped to set up the first of Cory Stillman's two goals, one that gave Carolina a 2-0 lead in the first period.
David Tanabe and Stillman scored in the final period.
Ward stopped 28 shots for his fourth NHL shutout.

UNIONDALE, N.Y. - Tim Thomas stopped 33 shots to help Boston win on Long Island for the first time in 11 games there.
Glen Murray, Petteri Nokelainen and Chuck Kobasew scored for Boston, which was 0-5-4-1 at the Nassau Coliseum since a 4-2 victory on Dec. 22, 2001.

PITTSBURGH - Kris Letang broke a 1-1 tie by scoring off Sidney Crosby's pass midway through the third period, propelling Pittsburgh past Phoenix.
The Penguins got goals from Letang and fellow rookie Tyler Kennedy in the final nine minutes after Phoenix's Shane Doan tied the game at 1-1 early in the third period.
The Penguins' Maxime Talbot opened the scoring with 36 seconds left in the first period.

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Niklas Hagman's shoot-out backhander powered Dallas past Columbus.
The Stars' Chris Conner scored early in the third period, matching Nikolai Zherdev's first-period goal for Columbus.

DENVER - Steve Bernier, Milan Michalek and Mike Grier scored, and Evgeni Nabokov made 33 saves to lead San Jose past Colorado.
Nashville Predators forward Scott Nichol was suspended for five games by the NHL for a blow to the head of Montreal defenseman Patrice Brisebois on Saturday.
Nichol will be eligible to return on Dec. 15 at Colorado, and will lose $45,732 in salary.
