Freeman lifts No. 5 Hoyas

WASHINGTON - Freshman Austin Freeman scored 15 points to lead No. 5 Georgetown by slumping Jacksonville, 87-55, yesterday in Washington.

The Hoyas shot a season-high 59 percent and pulled away late in the first half to improve to 7-0 for the first time since the 2003-04 season.

The Dolphins (3-6) have lost six straight since opening the season 3-0.

Washington State 72, Portland State 60 - Aron Baynes was 9 for 9 from the field and scored 23 points as the No. 8 Cougars (9-0) toppled the stubborn Vikings (6-4) in Pullman, Wash., to remain undefeated.

Nebraska 63, Rutgers 51 - Aleks Maric scored 19 points to carry the Cornhuskers (5-2) past the Scarlet Knights (6-3) in Lincoln, Neb.

Corey Chandler had 25 points for Rutgers.

Virginia Tech 68, George Washington 36 - A.D. Vassallo scored 11 of his 18 points in the second half and the Hokies (5-3) drubbed the Colonials (3-4) in Blacksburg, Va.

Boston College 81, Maryland 78 - Tyrese Rice scored a game-high 19 points as the Eagles (7-1, 1-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) edged the Terrapins (6-4, 0-1) in College Park, Md.

Kansas State 82, California 75 - Bill Walker had 30 points and 10 rebounds, and Michael Beasley scored 12 of his 19 points in the second half, helping the Wildcats (6-3) hold off the Bears (6-1) in Manhattan, Kan.

Mountain State 123, Lincoln 80 - Ladaye Johnson scored a career-high 23 points, but the Lions (0-9) lost to the Cougars (10-0), the No. 1-ranked NAIA Division II team in the nation, in Montgomery, W.Va.
