HOUSTON - The four gymnasts who were right behind Paul Hamm after the first night of the Visa Championships were his Team Chevron teammates - Joseph Hagerty (89.750), David Sender (89.700), and Raj Bhavsar (89.700). Camden's Sean Golden, who competed in only three events, was fifth in both the still rings and vault. Penn State's Kevin Tan had the highest rings score (16.650) and the lowest marks in the high bar (12.550). Both are Team Chevron members.
Philadelphia's Taqiy Abdullah-Simmons, from the University of Oklahoma, had the 18th highest overall total at 84.450.
Even though he injured his right hand in his sixth and final event, the parallel bars, Hamm finished with the best total score for the six events, 93.450. He was first in floor exercise, pommel horse and high bar.
