McDermott wins his third Mid-Amateur

Michael McDermott of Merion Golf Club captured the Golf Association of Philadelphia's Mid-Amateur Championship for the third time yesterday with a 36-hole total of 2-over-par 144 at Fieldstone.

McDermott, who held a 2-shot lead after the first round on the 6,532-yard course, carded a 75 to wrap up the title in the GAP's first major event of the season.

Phoenixville's Mike Domenick had a second-round 74 and finished second at 146.
