Mickelson triumphs with last-hole birdie

FORT WORTH, Texas - Phil Mickelson made a nine-foot birdie putt on the final hole yesterday to earn a 1-stroke victory over Tim Clark and Rod Pampling in the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial Country Club.

FORT WORTH, Texas - Phil Mickelson made a nine-foot birdie putt on the final hole yesterday to earn a 1-stroke victory over Tim Clark and Rod Pampling in the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial Country Club.

It was Mickelson's 34th career victory. He shot a closing 2-under 68 to finish at 14-under 266. The lefthander also won at Colonial in 2000.

Stephen Ames (70) finished fourth at 269, a stroke ahead of Ben Crane (67).

LPGA Tour

CORNING, N.Y. - Leta Lindley gained her first career victory in her 296th start when she birdied the first hole of a playoff with Jeong Jang to claim the LPGA Corning Classic title at Corning Country Club.

Jang and Lindley, with her husband caddying, tied in regulation at 11-under 277.

Sun Young Yoo (66) and Mi Hyun Kim (66) finished in a tie for third at 10 under.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Jay Haas overcame a shaky putter during a topsy-turvy final round at Oak Hill to win his second Senior PGA Championship in three years.

Haas endured a five-bogey, one-birdie round of 74 to finish the tournament at 7-over 287 and claim the $360,000 first prize after he finished a shot ahead of Bernhard Langer.

VIRGINIA WATER, England - Miguel Angel Jimenez won the BMW PGA Championship on the second playoff hole, sinking a two-foot birdie to beat Oliver Wilson at Wentworth.
