I killed a friend yesterday. Death by column is never a good way to go. Particularly when your name is Blackie Sherrod and I put "late columnist" in front of his name just a day after the Dallas Morning News announced his retirement at age 83. I discovered the error, but in a senior moment forgot to send a "delete" request to the newspaper. Since Blackie was kind enough to write a blurb for the jacket of "Batting Cleanup, Bill Conlin" in 1997, I am as embarrassed as Blackie's notes column regular "Neighbor Jones" would be having nothing to say.
