Bring your worst gifts to the Phantoms' next game

Nothing like the minor leagues for creative promotions. Take the one the Phantoms have scheduled for Friday's game. It has been designated Awful Gift Night. Fans are asked to bring any unwanted holiday gifts to donate to charity. One man's trash is another man's treasure, or so the saying goes.

The Phantoms will be hosting the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins that night at the Wachovia Spectrum, riding an eight-game streak of earning at least one point in the standings.

The Phantoms did have a seven-game winning streak, but that was snapped in a 3-2 shootout loss to the Norfolk Admirals in an American Hockey League game Saturday at the Wachovia Center.

For Phantoms fans, the highlight of the game might have been when the second period started with a bang - the sound of Norfolk's 6-7 Vladimir Mihalik hitting the ice when he was KO'd in a brawl with the Phantoms' Jeff Szwez.

Kixx

Despite a hat trick by the Kixx' Pat Morris, the host Baltimore Blast remained undefeated with a 16-10 victory Saturday. The Kixx has two games left in 2008, Friday and Sunday against the La RaZa in Monterrey. *
